Self Advocate at Large

Laugh and cry and tell stories…. Bold, brash stories about reclaiming our bodies and changing the world.

Eli Clare

My WHY:

I’m a self-advocate because I believe that people with disabilities ourselves are the ones who are most qualified to make decisions about our lives.

Life has taught me:

The status quo never takes into account marginalized communities. An equitable society requires struggle against the status quo.

Bet you didn’t know:

I once stayed with the best wheelchair basketball team in Central America for a couple weeks. When they’re not playing basketball, they build wheelchairs for Guatemalans with disabilities at their factory in Antigua.

If I could change the world:

Each of us would have the agency to make decisions about where we live, how and when we engage with the community, and how we apply our skills and interests in the most personally meaningful ways possible.

What people like and admire about me:

I’m an experienced advocate and organizer, and I don’t hesitate to share these skills with others.
